Staging the centrepiece anniversary shows
for one of the worlds largest shopping malls.

VivoCity is Singapore’s largest shopping mall and lifestyle destination. An impressive 1500 seat amphitheatre on the centre's rooftop is home to many concerts and international acts. From the first anniversary celebrations in 2007 throughout the following years, John Rowe has created and directed several bespoke visual and musical spectaculars for VivoCity's annual anniversary celebrations.
On the first anniversary of its opening, John was commissioned to create a show to celebrate the spirit of Vivocity. The Spirit of Life was a joyous musical celebration featuring singers, dancers and inspiring specialty acts, seamlessly choreographed and connected through a musical theme and visual poetry, followed by a fireworks display across the Singapore Bay area. It played nightly for 2 weeks to full houses.
Based on the success of the first event, VivoCity made the anniversary celebrations an annual event to coincide with the lead up to Christmas, and John was lucky enough to be commissioned several more times to create bespoke stage productions.
In each case the show is created and produced from concept to performance based around a specific theme, including script, music composition & production, costumes, casting, choreography & direction. A stage, set and lighting rig is designed and purpose built for the show.
The casting is a truly international affair, and includes music theatre performers, recording artists, professional contemporary and commercial dancers, and unique specialty acts from as far afield as Russia & the UK.
Creating spectacular entertainment of this scale in a usually limited time span and budget is a challenge that has been met and overcome each time to create a truly unforgettable theatrical and musical experience for audiences.

Illuminate! (2012)

The show explored different aspects on the theme of "light" - laser light, coloured light, reflected light, shadow & light, and the festive light of Christmas. A truly unique show which flowed from one moment to the next through musical links and powerful imagery. It starred 4 exceptional vocalists, a 6 member dance troupe, a mesmerising hoop artist, a mystifying crystal ball contact juggler and a magnificent projected sand artist, amidst LED, laser and projected light effects.

Winter's Dream (2011)

An enchanting Christmas story featuring spectacular song and dance as well as amazing cirque-inspired acts. Inspired by the Russian fairy tale of The Snow Maiden, Winter Dream is a 30-minute heart-warming musical about a young boy’s fascinating journey into the mythical land of ice and snow, in search of the true spirit of Christmas. Here he meets the Snow Maiden (Snegurochka in the original Russian story) and her father Old Man Frost (Ded Moroz in the original - a Father Christmas type character). The set features mapped projection depicting several scenes and animated content.

The Nutcracker (2010)

The Nutcracker was a re-imagined version of John's earlier creation "Clara's Dream", a 30 minute all original mini musical based on the Nutcracker story. This production featured a new set design and an almost entirely Australian cast, starring several up & coming musical theatre stars who have now gone on to leading roles in big ticket Australian musicals.

Spirit of Life (2007)

A specially choreographed unique show inspired by VivoCity’s energy and vitality. Three female vocalists - an enchanting operatic soprano, a high energy rock singer, and an R'n'B/soul songstress represent three life energies: the spirit of nature, the spirit of creativity and the spirit of love. They are each matched with a spectacular specialty act - a mesmerising hand balance duo, an electrifying metal grinding act, and a sensual ariel couple. And all accompanied by a team of talented commercial dancers. Featuring a purpose made music sound track, a vibrant light show and a fireworks finale.
